The REBirth of the Noon Miracle

From founder Jane Sibbett:

UCLA in the early 1980s was an exciting time for those of us in the Theatre Arts Department.

Magic happened daily. In those days, before we had mobile distractions in our pockets, creativity was streaming through our cells. We couldn’t wait to gather at North Campus with our new friends. We had big dreams, and we were surrounded by other big dreamers who also wanted to play well in every way.

Many of my friends came only to act, but to be in the UCLA Theatre program, each student had to learn every aspect of successful production from the ground up. We all had classes in writing, lighting, designing, building, directing, producing, and acting. Yes, we may have a quarter of scene combat or voice training, but we also learned every element required to put on a show from the master builders and designers, too. We read blueprints because we designed them. We learned how to use power tools and blend paint in the workshops to build and fabricate the sets. We crafted the feel and mood of the place and character by hanging lights and sewing costumes. We managed the box office, sold tickets, ushered in audiences, and swept floors. If we had an idea, and we couldn't wait to learn from our professors how to make it happen, we had peers and mentors who also loved bringing inspiration to fruition. This was fertile ground for the Noon Miracle.

So many days, hungry at high noon, on any random weekday, I’d thrill to find a single actor or a chorus of twenty suddenly creating a new universe in the most unlikely of places—a dance of dialogue on the steps of Haines Hall as 400 students streamed out from Sociology 101, a flurry of romance in a dark, tiny basement room under the stage in Royce Hall, or Petticoats & Hoopskirts—inspired collections of Keystone curated poetry refining every sweaty rogue descending from the scaffolding after combat class in MacGowan 40.

All these talents coming together for a single performance in an unlikely space at noon showed me how quickly the artists of that remarkable age or any could gather to make fire out of our collective imagination.

Throughout history, it has been artists who have led humanity toward community and unity. This passion play of creativity fostering connection is our raison d'être; Here at Noon Miracle, we seek to inspire hope and miracles of joy through our collective art.

Our Mission

In every precarious time in history, when we've faced radical shifts in life as we know it, we've circled our wagons with visionaries—the dreamers and the artists.

On Noon Miracle, we invite you and fellow artists to circle up with sparkling visionaries and call forth your most potent artistic alchemy. We are ripe to transform and inspire through the simplest focus of heart and craft. From friends of the first pebble in the pond—the original Noon Miracle artists—to wider spheres of art—writers, actors, poets, directors, playwrights, or cinematographers around the planet, let's gather around the rising theme of these times. Art matters. Wordsmithery inspires. Images ignite our imagination. Bring it. Bring the siren song. Bring your midnight poem shot straight to an iPhone camera, the flash fiction, or your multi-character 29-minute short that revivifies your spirit.

Let's share your heart work across our platforms to help soothe, lead, inspire, and stimulate conversations about what we artists consider the essential things that greatly need artistic and life-saving attention and let's inspire and gather our community for good.
