The Dreaming Tree
Once, there was a little boy and a little girl, who had a tree. But this wasn't any ordinary tree, it was a dreaming tree, where anything was possible.
The Dreaming Tree is a 38-page homage to the 2020 pandemic, where instead of focusing on Covid, the fear and finger-pointing when “the world stopped”, I choose to tell how the children of the world climb their magical trees into the clouds, where there is no need for language, where it doesn’t matter what you look like, where they all play and live together, creating beautiful sights that inspire the adults to get the world running again. A world where everyone works together to live in harmony, creating a safe and beautiful place for the children to return to.
"In The Dreaming Tree, Ruby Fink gives us a delightful inspirational tale in which children from around the world live together in happiness and joy. The full-color illustrations are dreamily beautiful, depicting children of various ethnicities having fun as they play with each other in the clouds even if they don’t speak the same language. Who needs language to play hide-and-seek, we’re asked. While that is a wonderful image on its own, I especially enjoyed the way that the absence of the children stirs the adults into action. How wonderful it would be if we could decide to restart the earth and take better care of it than we did before. Isn’t there hope for peace and unity so long as children can dream?"
